The Humax MX7 gives you more control over home EV charging: when it starts, how you manage it and how it uses your home’s electricity.
With up to 7.4kW AC charging, app control and support for surplus solar energy, it brings useful everyday features together in a compact black charger. At Electricals Online, you can choose a Type 2 socket, a 5m tethered cable or a longer 7.5m tethered cable.
Here’s what those features mean for your home, and how to choose the right version for your driveway.
Make cheaper charging part of your routine
If your electricity tariff offers cheaper overnight periods, scheduling helps you use them. Plug in when you get home and set the MX7 to charge during the hours that suit your tariff.
That means less effort managing each session and more control over the price you pay for the electricity your car uses. The saving depends on your tariff, how much you charge and how much of that charging falls within the lower-rate window.
The Humax Charge app also offers an Intelligent Charging mode, using your registered vehicle, tariff details and ready-by settings to plan charging.
Check compatibility with your exact tariff and vehicle before relying on an energy supplier’s automated charging service. Setting an off-peak schedule and direct supplier integration are separate features.
Make more of the energy your roof generates
For a home with compatible solar panels, the MX7’s Auto Solar function can direct surplus generation to your car after household electricity needs have been met.
It’s a useful option if your car is often parked at home during daylight. Energy that is available from your solar system can help replenish the battery while you get on with your day.
Solar output changes with the weather and household demand. Your installer should confirm the monitoring, CT clamp and settings required, including how the charger will work alongside any home battery. The financial benefit also depends on your import tariff and export payments.
Stay in control from your phone
The Humax Charge app lets you start and stop charging remotely, check progress, review charging history and manage schedules. It makes it easy to see how charging fits into your routine and how much energy you’re using.
App access controls and RFID authentication help you manage who can use the charger. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE and Ethernet provide connection options; a reliable connection at the mounting position supports the charger’s connected features.
The MX7 also supports dynamic energy management. With the correct installation and monitoring, it can adjust charging around the home’s available electrical capacity as other household loads change.
One charger range. Three ways to connect.
The key choice is the cable arrangement. A socket version gives you a removable lead, while a tethered version keeps a cable attached and ready to use. Choose the length around your usual parking position and the location of your car’s charging port.

Measure the route the cable will take. Allow for the position of the charging port, the route around the car and enough slack to connect comfortably. The 7.5m version gives you 2.5m more cable than the 5m model.
Designed for life on the driveway
The MX7’s understated black finish sits neatly on an exterior wall or in a garage. The socket version carries an IP54 rating, while the tethered versions are IP65; both styles have IK10 impact protection.
Built-in features include PEN fault protection, temperature monitoring and tamper detection. Your installer will assess the supply, choose a suitable position and provide the electrical protection needed for the complete installation.
Humax offers a five-year manufacturer’s warranty when registered online, subject to its terms and installation requirements.
A little planning makes daily charging easier
Before ordering, agree three things with your EV installer:
- The position: where the charger will sit, how the cable will reach your car and where it will be stored.
- The setup: supply capacity, charging limits, connectivity and any solar or energy monitoring.
- The handover: app registration, schedules, access controls and warranty registration.
Installation is not included unless expressly stated on the product listing. Arrange it with a qualified EV charge point installer and keep your purchase and commissioning records.
A few useful answers
Will it work with my electric car?
The MX7 is designed for compatible electric cars and plug-in hybrids with a Type 2 AC charging connection. Check your vehicle’s charging specification before ordering.
How quickly will my car charge?
The MX7 provides up to 7.4kW on a suitable single-phase supply. The actual rate depends on the car’s onboard AC charger, available electrical capacity and configured limits. Charging time also depends on how much energy the battery needs.
Do I need solar panels?
No. The MX7 can charge from the grid. Auto Solar is an additional feature for homes with a compatible solar installation and the right monitoring and settings.
What does V2G-ready mean?
The MX7 includes PLC hardware and ISO 15118 communication support intended for future vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home services. Humax currently states that V2G and V2H are not commercially supported, including home backup power. Future availability depends on compatible vehicles, software, certification and grid arrangements.
Choose the MX7 that fits your home
Start with your parking space and cable reach, then plan the charging features around your electricity tariff and household setup.
