Sevadis EV Chargers Questions

Category

What size EV charger do I need: 7kW or 22kW?

For many UK homes, a 7kW or 7.4kW EV charger is the most practical choice because it is designed for a typical single-phase electrical supply. A 22kW EV charger can charge compatible vehicles faster but normally requires a suitable three-phase electrical supply. Your vehicle must also be capable of accepting the higher AC charging rate to benefit from a 22kW charger.

Is a 22kW EV charger three times faster than a 7kW charger?

Potentially, but not in every installation. A 22kW charger has a much higher maximum power output than a 7kW charger, but the actual charging speed is limited by the vehicle's onboard AC charger, battery condition and available electrical supply. If your car can only accept 7kW or 11kW AC, connecting it to a 22kW charge point will not make it charge at the full 22kW.

What is the difference between an AC charger and a DC rapid charger?

An AC EV charger supplies alternating current to the vehicle, with the car's onboard charger converting it into DC electricity for the battery. These chargers are commonly used at homes, workplaces, apartment developments and destinations.

A DC rapid charger converts the electricity before it reaches the vehicle and supplies DC power directly to the battery, allowing compatible vehicles to charge considerably faster. Sevadis' current range includes home and commercial AC chargers as well as 50kW and higher-power DC charging solutions.

What is dynamic load balancing on an EV charger?

Dynamic or active load balancing manages how much electricity an EV charger uses in relation to the available electrical capacity of the property.

If other high-powered appliances are already consuming electricity, the charging system can reduce the amount being used by the EV charger rather than unnecessarily overloading the supply. In larger installations, load management can also distribute available power between multiple charging points.

What is the Sevadis MaxiCharger Gen2?

The Sevadis MaxiCharger Gen2 is a smart EV charging range covering residential, commercial, workplace, fleet and public applications. The range includes 7.4kW home chargers, digital and LCD commercial chargers, dual 22kW AC chargers and higher-power DC charging solutions.

Does the Sevadis MaxiCharger work with solar panels?

Yes. Sevadis MaxiCharger Gen2 supports intelligent solar integration. The Gen2 ecosystem includes charging modes designed to prioritise surplus solar generation or combine solar energy with other available power sources.
