Description

Stored hot water for commercial kitchens, canteens and washrooms

The Heatrae Sadia Hotflo 50–100 litre range provides electrically heated, stored hot water for light commercial premises. With 50, 80 and 100 litre capacities and separate horizontal and vertical models, it offers a choice of storage volumes and installation layouts.

Each model has a 3kW nominal heating element and a duplex stainless steel inner vessel. Heatrae Sadia identifies canteens, washrooms and commercial kitchens among the range’s intended applications.

For an installer planning a refurbishment, or a business replacing an existing heater, the important starting points are the amount of hot water required, available installation space and incoming water supply.

Choose the capacity and orientation to suit the installation

The three capacities provide different amounts of stored hot water. Choosing the right size involves more than counting sinks: the installer should consider how frequently outlets are used, whether they operate together and how much recovery time is available between periods of demand.

Horizontal and vertical units are separate products with their own model codes. Select the version designed for the required mounting position rather than assuming one heater can be fitted either way.

Unvented operation with standard or mixer taps

Hotflo uses the incoming cold-water mains supply to deliver hot water, without a separate cold-water storage cistern. The manufacturer supports use with standard or mixer taps, subject to the complete installation being suitable.

Larger Hotflo models can serve multiple basins, but the achievable flow depends on the incoming mains pressure, flow rate and pipework. Increasing storage capacity does not increase the performance of a restricted water supply.

These are storage heaters. They heat a tank of water and require recovery time after substantial use.

Stainless steel storage vessel and safety controls

The high-grade duplex stainless steel inner vessel provides corrosion resistance. Insulation helps reduce heat loss from the stored water, while thermostatic control regulates heating.

A temperature and pressure relief valve is factory fitted. The installation also needs the correct cold-water controls, expansion provision and safely routed discharge pipework. Space for those components and future servicing should be included when planning the location.

The range is designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK. Heatrae Sadia lists a five-year inner-container warranty, with two-year cover for specified controls and components, subject to its terms. Installation and commissioning must be completed by competent installers trained in unvented hot-water systems.

FAQ's

What is the Heatrae Sadia Hotflo 50–100 litre range?

It is a range of electric unvented storage water heaters available in 50, 80 and 100 litre capacities, with separate horizontal and vertical versions.

Are these instantaneous water heaters?

No. They heat stored water using an electric element. After substantial hot-water use, the stored supply needs time to recover.

Are horizontal and vertical versions interchangeable?

Do not assume they are. They have different product codes and installation arrangements. Order the version designed for the intended mounting position.

Which capacity should I choose?

Consider peak demand, water used per visit, simultaneous outlet use and recovery time. A larger tank provides more storage, but does not increase the nominal 3kW element rating.

Can one Hotflo supply several basins?

The manufacturer supports multiple-basin applications. The suitable number depends on demand, storage capacity and the incoming water supply, rather than one fixed basin count.

Does it require a cold-water storage cistern?

No. Hotflo is mains-fed through the specified cold-water controls.

Can it work with ordinary mixer taps?

The manufacturer states that Hotflo works with standard or mixer taps. The installer must check the selected fittings and complete system design.

What is the inner tank made from?

The manufacturer specifies high-grade duplex stainless steel for the inner storage vessel.

Is the temperature and pressure relief valve included?

Yes. The product page states that this valve is factory fitted.

Are the expansion vessel and cold-water controls supplied?

The linked manuals list an expansion vessel, cold-water controls and tundish in the standard delivery. Check the contents against the exact model supplied, particularly where older manuals show different product codes.

Does installation need a discharge pipe?

Yes. The safety valves require a suitable discharge arrangement. Its route and termination must be assessed before choosing the heater’s location.

Will a larger capacity improve poor water pressure?

No. Capacity increases the stored water volume. Outlet performance still depends on incoming pressure, flow and pipework.

What water connections does the range have?

The manufacturer’s technical sheet lists 22mm compression connections, located on the left-hand side of horizontal models and underneath vertical models.

What electrical supply is required?

The range is nominally 3kW. The matching installation manual and rating plate must be used to specify the electrical connection, protection and isolation.
