Description

Warm garden lighting for planting and pathways

The Collingwood SL13027 LED garden spike light provides focused illumination for flower beds, planted borders and features beside garden paths. Its black anodised aluminium construction gives it a discreet appearance among planting, while the supplied ground spike allows positioning in suitable soil.

This exact model produces 2700K warm white light. It is a fixed-colour fitting, chosen for a soft, warm appearance rather than the cooler white light available elsewhere in the range.

A focused beam with an adjustable head

The 26° beam helps direct light towards a selected plant or garden feature. The head has a published 90° tilt adjustment, allowing the installer to aim the light after positioning the spike.

This makes it useful for highlighting individual details within a landscape rather than spreading light across a large area. Positioning several fittings around a planting scheme can create separate points of interest, with the layout selected around the features you want to illuminate.

Choose the output through the LED driver

The light can operate at either of its two rated drive currents:

  • 350mA - 1W, producing 70 lumens

  • 700mA - 2W, producing 120 lumens

These operating levels are determined by the compatible constant-current driver. There is no wattage-selection switch on the fitting.

The LED driver is purchased separately. This light requires an appropriate SELV constant-current supply and must not be connected directly to 230V mains or treated as a standard 12V or 24V garden light.

For installations with several fittings, Collingwood specifies series wiring. The driver must be selected for the operating current and the permitted number of lights.

Outdoor construction with a supplied cable

The fitting has an IP65 rating, and Collingwood identifies it as suitable for coastal areas. Its casing and spike are anodised aluminium, giving this version a different construction from the stainless steel SL030 models.

A 3m H05RN-F rubberised cable is supplied for connection to the lighting system. Suitable waterproof connection enclosures are needed where joints are exposed to damp or wet conditions; the fitting’s IP rating does not automatically protect an unsuitable cable joint.

A useful option for garden lighting projects

For homeowners planning a landscaped garden and electricians specifying the installation, the main choices are straightforward: this model supplies black construction, warm 2700K light and a narrow, aimable beam. The driver and connection accessories are selected separately around the installation.

Collingwood publishes an L70 70,000-hour LED lifetime and seven-year product warranty, subject to registration and its warranty conditions.

FAQ's

Does it include the LED driver?

No. A compatible SELV constant-current driver must be purchased separately. Driver selection depends on the operating current and number of connected fittings.

Can I connect it directly to 230V mains?

No. The fitting requires 350mA or 700mA DC constant current. Mains power connects to the input of an appropriate driver, not directly to the light.

Will an ordinary 12V or 24V LED power supply work?

A standard constant-voltage supply is not the specified power source. This model requires a compatible constant-current driver delivering the correct rated current.

How do I choose between 1W and 2W operation?

The driver determines the operating level. At 350mA, the light operates at 1W and produces 70 lumens. At 700mA, it operates at 2W and produces 120 lumens.

Is there a wattage switch on the light?

No. The two published power levels correspond to the chosen driver current. They should not be described as switch-selectable settings on the fitting.

Can several lights share one driver?

Yes, where the selected driver supports the required number of fittings. Collingwood specifies series wiring. Check the driver’s minimum and maximum load, output-voltage range and approved product quantities.

Can I choose a driver by adding up the wattages alone?

No. Constant-current systems also require the correct current and sufficient output-voltage range for the complete series string. Follow Collingwood’s driver-selection guidance rather than using wattage alone.

Is this model dimmable?

Collingwood’s technical sheet describes dimming as driver dependent, while its current SKU field states None. Confirm the proposed driver and control combination before specifying dimming; do not assume compatibility with an ordinary mains dimmer.
