Description
A plaster-in downlight for a clean ceiling finish
The Collingwood H5 Trimless DL282WHWWDIM is a matt white, plaster-in LED downlight designed to blend into the ceiling without a conventional surface bezel. It suits new-build interiors and refurbishment projects where the ceiling is being plastered and the lighting positions can be planned before decorating.
The housing is installed during the ceiling works, with plaster finished to its lip. The LED unit is fitted afterwards, leaving a recessed light opening and a discreet finish. This installation method is an important difference from a standard downlight that clips into an already finished ceiling.
Warm white light from a 6W LED
This exact model produces 600 lumens from 6W, with fixed 3000K warm white light. It provides a comfortable-looking light colour for living spaces, bedrooms and hospitality interiors where a warmer appearance is preferred.
Its 38° beam directs the light downwards, while the recessed light source helps reduce its visibility from normal viewing angles. Collingwood publishes a UGR14 glare rating for the fitting.
The light colour is fixed rather than selectable, and the downlight does not tilt. Lighting positions should therefore be planned around the room layout and the areas you want to illuminate.
Mains dimming with the driver included
The fitting includes its LED driver and supports compatible leading-edge and trailing-edge mains dimming. Brightness can be adjusted using a suitable dimmer, with compatibility and connected load checked before installation.
Collingwood specifically states that automatic dimmer detection must be disabled when used with this product. The easy-fit connector and flexible driver positioning help with installation during the ceiling works.
Fire ratings depend on the ceiling construction
Collingwood lists approval for 30, 60 and 90-minute solid-timber ceiling constructions, and 30-minute I-joist constructions. These are specific construction approvals rather than a universal fire rating for every ceiling.
The manufacturer also states that using a converter plate removes the product’s fire rating, although its IP rating is retained.
Plan the ceiling space and insulation correctly
The published ceiling cut-out is 60–72mm, and the downlight body is 70mm deep. Additional installation clearance is required, so the body depth should not be treated as the minimum ceiling-void depth.
The installation drawing shows IP65 protection below the ceiling and IP20 above. Collingwood identifies the fitting for bathroom Zone 1 ceiling applications, subject to correct installation.
Although the technical data lists compatibility with rolled and blown insulation, the installation instructions also require an air gap. Follow that clearance arrangement when planning the ceiling and insulation.
The fitting has a published L70 70,000-hour LED lifetime and seven-year product warranty, subject to registration and Collingwood’s conditions.
