Description
The Collingwood DRV150700 is a 30W constant-current LED driver designed to power compatible residential landscape luminaires. It converts a 220–240V AC mains supply into a controlled DC output, with five selectable current settings: 150mA, 250mA, 350mA, 500mA and 700mA.
For electricians installing garden lighting, or homeowners buying the components for a planned installation, the selectable output makes it easier to match the driver to the requirements of the chosen lights. Compatibility must still be checked against each fitting’s specified drive current and the combined electrical load.
Choose the light level during installation
Built-in DIP switches allow the installer to select the output current. On compatible luminaires, a lower permitted current setting reduces brightness, power consumption and operating temperature. This can be useful when softer lighting is required around planting, paths or garden features.
These are fixed installation settings. The driver is non-dimmable, so selectable output should not be confused with brightness adjustment from a wall dimmer.
The factory default is 350mA. The installer should check this setting before connecting the luminaires and must not exceed their maximum permitted drive current.
Check both current and voltage when selecting your lights
This is a constant-current driver, rather than a fixed 12V or 24V power supply. Its stated output voltage range is 2.5–42V DC, and compatible luminaires are connected in series.
Although the product is described as a 30W driver, the available output depends on the selected current. The installation instructions specify maximum loads of 6.3W at 150mA, 10.5W at 250mA, 14.7W at 350mA, 21W at 500mA and 29.4W at 700mA.
The number of fittings it can power therefore depends on their voltage requirements, the selected current and the allowance needed for voltage drop along the cable.
Compact housing for a protected installation
The white polycarbonate housing measures 98 × 43 × 22mm, making it straightforward to assess the space required before installation. Class II construction and a SELV output are specified, together with open-circuit, short-circuit and self-resetting overtemperature protection.
The driver itself is IP20 and is not waterproof. It is intended for an indoor location; where an external location is necessary, Collingwood’s instructions require a suitable waterproof enclosure. Outdoor cable connections also need appropriate protection.
Collingwood lists a five-year warranty, subject to its warranty terms and registration requirements.
