The PCDSB82B-01 is a double/twin dimmer switch with two independent controls. Each rotary control adjusts the brightness of its respective lighting circuit, while pressing the knob provides on/off switching. This makes the dimmer particularly useful in rooms containing two separate lighting zones, such as ceiling lights and wall lights, pendant lighting and downlights, or main lighting and decorative feature lighting.

BG uses intelligent trailing-edge dimming technology, designed to provide improved compatibility with modern dimmable LED lighting while also supporting suitable dimmable CFLs and traditional lamps. The official specification describes the dimmer as trailing edge and gives a low minimum LED load of 5W per module.

For dimmable LED lighting, each dimmer module has an official load range of 5–100W. Because the PCDSB82B-01 contains two modules, each lighting circuit needs to remain within the specified load limits for its own control.

BG specifies the following maximum/minimum load ratings per module:

• Dimmable LED: 5–100W
• Tungsten / incandescent: 5–200W
• Halogen: 20–200W
• Dimmable CFL: 5–100W

These ratings apply per dimmer module, rather than describing every lamp technology as a 200W load. Connected LED, CFL or other lamps must also be suitable for electronic dimming.

The PCDSB82B-01 provides 2-way on/off switching capability, giving electricians additional flexibility where compatible lighting needs to be switched from another position within the circuit. BG officially describes this model as a double, two-way dimmer switch.

BG's soft-start function brings connected lights up to the selected level over approximately one second rather than applying the full output immediately. BG states that this helps extend lamp life.

Integrated overload protection helps protect the dimmer if excessive lighting or transformer loads are connected. BG states that the dimmer can turn the lights down or off until the excessive load has been corrected.

The intelligent electronic design also provides smooth, silent dimming, helping make this twin dimmer suitable for bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and other areas where audible dimmer noise would be undesirable. BG also highlights support for lower-wattage lamps to help eliminate flickering.
