Direct Co-Axial Cable Termination

The aerial cable connects directly to the rear of the socket using a screw-terminal arrangement.

BG’s installation guidance for a single co-axial outlet instructs the installer to prepare the cable by removing approximately 16mm of outer sheath, folding back the screening braid and removing around 9mm of inner insulation. The centre conductor is inserted into the terminal connection while the cable screen is secured separately.

Correct cable preparation is important because loose strands of the screening braid must not touch the inner conductor. Contact between the braid and centre core may short-circuit the aerial signal and cause poor reception.
