Description

The BG CUC20-02 20A double-pole contactor provides automatic switching control for compatible electrical circuits installed inside a suitable consumer unit or enclosure. Instead of operating the connected circuit manually, the contactor can be controlled by a compatible timer, thermostat, switch or control system using its 230V AC coil.

When the control coil is energised, the contactor closes its two normally open contacts and supplies power to the connected circuit. When the control signal is removed, the contacts open again. This makes it useful for electrical installations that need equipment to switch automatically according to a schedule, temperature setting or external control command.

Typical applications may include suitably designed lighting circuits, electric heating controls, ventilation fans, pumps, signage and other automated electrical loads. The connected equipment, switching frequency and load characteristics must be checked by the installer to confirm that they are suitable for the contactor’s 20A rating.

The double-pole design switches two conductors at the same time, while the normally open contact arrangement means the connected circuit remains switched off until the 230V AC coil receives a control signal. This provides a simple and reliable method of separating the control circuit from the electrical load being switched.

Specification

The BG CUC20-02 is a 20A double-pole contactor used to switch a compatible electrical load automatically. It has two normally open contacts that close when its 230V AC control coil is energised.

The unit mounts onto a standard DIN rail and occupies one module inside an appropriate consumer unit or enclosure. It may be used as part of a professionally designed control system for suitable lighting, heating, ventilation and other automated circuits.

FAQ's

What does the BG CUC20-02 do?

It allows a compatible electrical circuit to be switched automatically by a separate control device, such as a timer, thermostat or control switch.

What does normally open mean?

Normally open means the main contacts remain open and the connected load stays off while the coil is not energised. The contacts close when a 230V AC control signal is applied.

Is the CUC20-02 double pole?

Yes. It has two normally open poles, allowing two conductors to be switched together.

What is the current rating?

The BG CUC20-02 has a rated current of 20A. The suitability of the connected load must be confirmed by the installer.

What coil voltage does it require?

The contactor requires a 230V AC coil supply. It should not be connected directly to a low-voltage control output unless a suitable interface or relay is included in the design.

How much consumer-unit space does it require?

It occupies one DIN-rail module, making it suitable for installations where available enclosure space is limited.

Can it control heating or lighting?

It may be used to control compatible heating, lighting, ventilation or similar loads when correctly selected and incorporated into a professionally designed electrical circuit.

Does the contactor provide circuit protection?

No. A contactor is an electrically operated switch. It does not provide the overload, short-circuit or earth-leakage protection supplied by an MCB, RCBO or RCD.

What is its operating temperature?

BG lists an operating temperature range of -5°C to +40°C.

How durable is the contactor?

BG specifies approximately 30,000 electrical operations and 1,000,000 mechanical operations under the stated operating conditions.
