The Taro Square combines a modern square bezel with a round 86mm ceiling cut-out, making it suitable for residential, hospitality and commercial projects requiring a fire-rated recessed spotlight. Its neutral Matt White finish blends naturally with white and light-coloured ceilings, while the geometric faceplate provides a sharper alternative to a traditional round downlight.
Astro specifies the Taro Square for installation after the ceiling has been plastered and finished. The visible bezel measures approximately 100mm square, while the fitting requires around 172mm of recess depth.
90-Minute Fire-Rated Ceiling Downlight
The Astro Taro Square 1240026 provides a 90-minute fire rating tested to BS 476 Part 21.
Cutting an opening into a fire-resistant ceiling can affect its ability to restrict the spread of fire. A correctly selected and installed fire-rated downlight is designed to help maintain the tested performance of the ceiling construction around the opening.
The complete installation, ceiling type, fixing method and surrounding materials must remain compatible with the relevant fire-resistance requirements of the building.

Product code 1240026 is the Matt White version of the Astro Taro Square. Its clean square bezel provides a contemporary appearance suitable for modern interiors and structured ceiling layouts.

Replaceable GU10 Lamp
The Astro Taro Square requires one GU10 lamp, which is sold separately. This allows the customer, electrician or lighting designer to select the required brightness, colour temperature, colour-rendering performance and beam angle.
Astro’s current product page lists a maximum lamp rating of 1 × 50W GU10, while the technical datasheet recommends a maximum 6W LED GU10. For most modern installations, an energy-efficient LED GU10 within the physical lamp-size restriction is the most appropriate option.
Suitable lamp options include:

The Astro Taro Square can be dimmed when fitted with a compatible dimmable GU10 LED lamp and connected to a suitable LED dimmer.
This allows the light output to be increased for practical tasks or reduced to create softer evening illumination. Dimming compatibility depends on the lamp and dimmer selected, so both components should be checked before installation.
Lamp-Dependent Light Output
The Taro Square does not contain an integrated LED. Its final lumen output, colour temperature, CRI, beam angle, energy consumption and expected lamp life depend on the GU10 lamp installed.
This replaceable-lamp design allows the lighting specification to be changed without replacing the complete ceiling fitting. A different GU10 bulb can be selected later when a warmer colour, brighter output or different beam spread is required.
Fixed Ceiling Downlight
The Astro Taro Square is a fixed downlight and does not include an adjustable tilt or rotation mechanism.
This makes it suitable for regular ceiling layouts where the light is intended to shine directly downwards. For directional lighting aimed towards artwork, walls or architectural features, an adjustable downlight may be more appropriate.
